Sudan grass is a species of grasses raised for grain as well as bovine and equine forage. It is native to tropical and subtropical regions of Eastern Africa but has been naturalized to North America. Sudangrass is a frost-sensitive, warm-season, erect annual grass. It grows from 6-8 feet tall and produces a large amount of dry animal forage if planted in the spring before the first frost. Its root system is fibrous. Sudan Grass hay is desirable for its nutritional and fiber values.
